Crossroads Treatment Center , Elizabethtown, KY Residential Services for teenage boys, ages 14 to 18 ![]() Program Overview The Crossroads Treatment Center is located on 10 acres in a farming area near Elizabethtown. The facility is a ranch-style home serving up to 12 boys who need special therapeutic care. It is a ministry of Sunrise Children's Services which provides residential, counseling, adoption, foster care, and independent living services throughout Kentucky. Founded in 1869, Sunrise is the largest private residential child care agency in Kentucky and the oldest Southern Baptist child care ministry. Sunrise is licensed by the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services. The Boys In Care Crossroads works with boys ranging in age from 14 to 18 who typically come from backgrounds of severe abuse or neglect. The boys often have an attitude of defeat and hopelessness when they arrive. A common thread that runs through almost all of the situations is the abandonment -- either physical or emotional -- that the boys feel. How Boys Are Helped Caring staff work with the boys through regular counseling sessions to help them build self esteem and confidence. The boys participate in intensive group work to enable them to begin the process of overcoming their pasts and taking control of their futures. Such a process teaches the boys to be accountable not only for their own conduct, but to help them understand that they help themselves most when they reach out to the other boys in the group. The boys attend church and participate in recreational activities in the local area. The Hardin County School District provides an on-site school and special tutoring for the boys. The length of stay for the boys ranges from nine months to two years. The overall goal for the program is for the boy to move from Crossroads to a stable living situation. This may be with his family, a foster family, or to another Sunrise program such as Spring Meadows Children's Home in Louisville. One of the most exciting times at the Crossroads Treatment Center comes when a boy is ready to graduate from the program. In a special ceremony, a tree is planted on the campus in the boy's honor. The tree symbolizes the growth the boy has made and serves as a living and growing reminder that Crossroads is making a difference in boys' lives. Crossroads Treatment Center
